Who is running the country while Three Jobs Alex hits the campaign trail?

Alex Salmond has 3 paid jobs - MSP for Gordon, MP for Banff and Buchan and First Minister of Scotland. A formidable workload, wouldn't you think?

Despite that, the Glenrothes by-election seems to be one of his top priorities at the moment - he has been there 6 times so far. Who is running the country while he's out there putting his political interests first?

It's terrible isn't it, I think we should think about getting him some staff and like, I don't know, a business phone or something so he can stay on top of things.

Is there anything in particular that you think is being missed or is this just mock-outrage?

(To be fair, I'm sure Tavish Obama Scott would do a much better job...)

All very well Jeff but I assume he has to attend some meetings, sign some papers (unless his staff forge these). And wasn't Margaret Curren attacked for having two jobs in the Glasgow East by election bt the SNP?

Now both Caron and I do know what making a by election top priority can entail. We know that something will have to give if that is his intention.

Now with the country in a somewhat sticky situation, surely we need to know that the 'expert' in properity, banking or whatnot is fully focused. Or is that not what £129,998 buys us these days.

Well, no, she wasn't 'attacked' for it. There was certainly a suggestion of hypocrisy from Labour in that they originally raised the issue about Salmond and then tried to have their own dual MP/MSP.

At the end of the day, this seems like Lib Dem plan B: Our candidate is about to get horsed so let's just carp from the sidelines about how Salmond is AWOL, even if everyone else understands the situation and has no problem with it.

Someone asked me at SNP Conference why would anyone vote Lib Dem. I have to admit, I couldn't think of an answer.

Wee Nicola? I'll get my passport...

Well, for a start, you can rely on the Lib Dems to defend your civil liberties, not to pander to interest groups, to deliver what the economy needs in terms of tax cuts and measures to help kickstart the housing market.

But anyway, yes, I did have something in mind. I was going to introduce it gently, but Stephen has obviously sussed what I was thinking and blogged it for himself.

It was Salmond himself who insisted remaining an MP, but he didn't take the opportunity to go and vote against the Lloyds HBOS takeover last night, along with the Liberal Democrats and his fellow SNP MPs.
