As another ex Labour MP, Eric Illsley awaits a spell at Her Majesty's Pleasure, he has finally resigned his Commons seat, triggering a by-election which will take place on March 3rd. He's had almost an extra month's wages - he could have resigned when he pleaded guilty on 11th January, but failed to do so. After he's already pocketed £14000 he wasn't entitled to, it is a major impertinence that he's taken an extra £3000 in salary.
How on earth Labour allowed him to stand in the General Election is beyond me. It's a bit rubbish of the Party, who made a thing of going through their MPs' claims, not to have sussed out what was going on.
The by-election is just 3 weeks away. The Liberal Democrats are having an action day this Saturday, from 10.30 am onwards, at Darton Parish Rooms, Church Street, Darton, Barnsley, S75 5HQ.
the Labour shoe in will likely win!

ReplyDeleteAre you going to allow my comment regarding Illsley and David Laws, censorship is hardly a liberal principle.
Anonymous, I haven't received such a comment. I've checked in the spam as well as my e-mail and the Blogger dashboard.
ReplyDeleteI don't see how you could possibly link the two, but I would have liked to argue the point with you. Please can you resubmit.
I very rarely reject comments and would only do so if they were unacceptably abusive or defamatory. Many bloggers don't accept anonymous comments at all, so I can hardly be accused of censorship.
