My New Year Scottish Roundup

Just in case you're missing me, here's a link to the Scottish Roundup I did on Sunday which includes everything from resolutions, to predictions to instructions on how to build an igloo. Let's hope we don't get the chance to put that one into practice for a while.

My Festive Scottish Roundup

Those nice people at Scottish Roundup have let me take on a second stint as Admin Editor (ie sorting out the paperclips and organising the tea rota) for the next couple of months.

We were going to leave the Christmas week, but with my love of Christmas sparkle and kitsch, and Mr Sheridan's wee spot of bother, I thought I'd do one for posterity and you can find it here. We ask people to send in their nominations each week but everyone clearly had better things to do in the run up to Christmas because we'd had three in total. I thought that someone, somewhere must have taken photos of the lunar eclipse that happened on the Winter Solstice, so I did a quick search of blogs on Google and found one which had posted some stunning images of the eclipse from a snowy north east. Truly amazing.

This weekend, my aim is to do a wee review of the year, so if you want to nominate any particular posts from or about Scotland that you've written or read this year, just comment here and I'll make sure they're included.

If you fancy trying your hand at putting a Roundup together, it's really easy and enjoyable. I'm preparing a rota for contributors to take us up to the middle of March. The slots I have left are 20th and 27th February and 6th and 13th March. You don't have to be a blogger - regular readers/commenters are also welcome to try their hand if they want. Just let me know if you want a go and tell me the date you'd like.

But now, having watched it twice, I'm off to write up my review of the amazing Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Roundups - Scottish and Personal

I've been a bit light on the blogging front this weekend as I've had a really busy few days - I've lots to catch you all up on this week including our trip to the Doctor Who exhibition in Newcastle which was so utterly awesome that I am tingling with excitement at the thought of writing the post.

I collapsed in a heap when I got home from there on Thursday night and didn't really come too until teatime on Friday. Yesterday we spent up in Crieff with our wonderful friends Louise and Martin and their 4 lovely daughters. Their nephew passed away at the age of 3 months last November and as I've written before, his mum and dad, Louise's sister and brother in law, set up the Joshua Deeth Foundation in his memory to raise funds for research and to support other families affected by rare neurological disorders. They held a coffee morning yesterday at which I tasted some of the best home baking I have ever had in my life - and there was plenty of it. We were by no means the furthest travelled - some people had come all the way from Aberdeen for the event. My friend Alex from Dunfermline,was there with her husband and 3 lovely girls, making a quick stop before heading off to France on their holidays and being on the Champs Elysees for the end of the Tour de France.

Afterwards, we headed back to Louise and Martin's and had a really chilled out afternoon. Anna was in her element as their cat, Belle, had 3 of the cutest kittens you could ever imagine 2 weeks ago and she was able to cuddle them.

We had a delicious dinner - including Martin's delectable nachos, and some wine, and a good laugh. We finally got home at 10.30 pm. I was pretty shattered and tweeted

Anyway, today I have spent the day mostly watching Formula 1 - come on Red Bull, start working together, for heavens' sake - and writing this week's Scottish Roundup.

I am now going to catch up on the Tour De France and watch Rubens Barrichello on Top Gear.

A Steamie Roundup with Haggis, Neeps and Liberalism on the side

Sorry for neglecting you over the past few days - and blogging will be a bit light today as it's Bob's birthday and he has half the day off.

Anyway, I haven't been completely lazy - I've been writing in other places.

Here's my Steamie post on how the Liberal Democrats added fairness to the Budget. Two parts of that were quoted slightly out of context in yesterday's Scotland on Sunday so if you read the whole thing, hopefully it'll make sense.

I did the Scottish Roundup this week.

And a Haggis, Neeps and Liberalism slot for Liberal Democrat Voice yesterday. That's all about how the current deficit crisis is no the first time we Scots have suffered at the hands of Labour's finanaical irresponsibility, given the mess that Council's were left with in 2007. If the Lib Dem/SNP coalition administrations hadn't sorted things out in Edinburgh and Fife, the problems these areas would face would be even worse now.

Other than that, I've been watching F1, Glastonbury, Doctor Who and spending time up ladders splatting rats - but more of that later.

The Scotties are here - Scotblogs Awards 2010

First I should say that they aren't really called the Scotties. That's just me being me. It is kind of appropriate though. If you think it's a bit vomit inducing, think of it as a tribute to a certain Enterprise based engineer.

Those nice people at Scottish Round Up have introduced the Scotblogs Awards to honour the best of the Scottish Blogosphere. The Awards take place in two stages. First, they're looking for nominations e-mailed to scottishroundup+awards@gmail.com by 13th January at 6pm. They also want to have suggestions for categories by the same deadline.

Then there will be a second phase where people can vote for the nominees on the shortlist which will run from 14-27 January at 6pm. What's interesting is that alongside the reader votes, there will be a Strictly Come Dancing style scoring system with the final score incorporating scores from an esteemed panel of judges.

So, there you have it. I could pretend modesty, but I'd really like it if you'd nominate me and even better if you'd vote for me when the shortlists come out. I shall be nominating lots of people too. What's important is that this is a chance to showcase the Scottish blogging. There are lots of excellent blogs out there covering a huge range of subjects. I want to learn about lots of blogs that I never knew about over the next few weeks. Thanks to the talented Mr Stephen and his colleagues at Scottish Roundup (I actually typed Scottish Roundabout and for a moment was tempted to leave it, seeing as I'm doing this week's on Sunday.)

Scottish Round Up

What a day it's been! I am completely shattered after staying up too late last night and am emotionally drained after watching the Wimbledon Final. There was some unanimity amongst the Scottish Tweeting blogosphere - we were all supporting Andy Roddick and were disappointed when his valiant efforts ended in such a close defeat at 16-14 in the final set.

Anyway, I have spent this week putting together my first ever Scottish Round Up in easy stages. I've really enjoyed it. If you haven't seen it already, go and have a look and find out why Stephen tweeted me within minutes of it going up saying "Mr Eugenides is going to kill you".
