Formula One stars in Twitter bidding war for our affections

Formula One drivers Rubens Barrichello and Nelson Piquet Jr have recently joined Twitter - and they are the real deal as it's on both their official websites. They are not to be confused with @fakerubens and @fakepiquetjr who are both funnier than the real things, especially when they tweet during the races.

Over the last day or so, the two genuine articles have got involved in a bidding war for our affections, offering such goodies as racing gloves, helmet visors and even their racing suits for particular milestones of followers.

Much as I love young Piquet, the prize I particularly have my eye on is a pass to watch the Brazilian Grand Prix in October from the Brawn pits if Rubens gets to 100,000 followers.

Now, you might be an F1 fan who wants to get in the running for such a spectacular prize. Alternatively, you might hate F1 and think it's a total waste of carbon and the playground of the opulent rich, but like me and want me to have a chance of getting to Brazil. Either way, nip across to Twitter and follow them. I hear Brazil is very nice in October!

UPDATE: The first great giveaway has taken place and has been won by Kate. Nelson Piquet Jr offered a signed helmet visor to the person who could give the best reason for getting it. Kate said that she'd give it to her fiance in exchange for the engagement ring he's been promising for 6 months. I'm pleased to say that several of the F1 community also weighed in on her behalf to say she deserved it. Looks like she's going to get both visor and ring. Wonder if Nelson will be invited to the wedding!
