This is why we elected Tim Farron as President!

Featured on Liberal Democrat Voice

Having met Tim Farron and worked on his presidential campaign team, when he sends out a press release, I actually hear it in his voice, talking just a tiny bit too fast, full of energy and passion for whatever the subject is.

We're in for a treat over these next two years. I sometimes worry that our press releases are too safe, too predictable, and dare I say it, too boring. No danger of that with Farron around. I am absolutely sure he's going to end up in trouble at some stage, but I'd rather have someone speak their mind than be bland.

Farron is the political equivalent of taking a big fat red chilli and sticking it in the frying pan, seeds and all. So while Simon Hughes has been gently cajoling disaffected supporters to stay with us despite Ed Miliband's attempt to cuddle up to them.  Tim's press release was entitled "Why would any sane progressive give Labour a second glance?"

“As part of the Coalition Government, Liberal Democrats have started fixing Labour’s economic mess, taking millions of people out of Income Tax and reforming British politics.  Things Labour had 13 years to do but failed to deliver.

“The Liberal Democrats have also announced more cash for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, one of the biggest moves to improve social mobility in decades.
“Continuing that work is something far more attractive to Liberal Democrats than helping Ed Miliband’s increasingly desperate attempts to work out what he actually stands for.
“However, if he is serious about co-operation then the first thing he should do is stop the Labour Party’s attempts to block the referendum on electoral reform that he claims to support.
That's the sort of punchy stuff we've been needing for the last six months, not the terrible e-mails from the Party that we've all come to dread.

Indeed well said. We've been too supine with Labour since May and it's time to start reminding people just how bad they are.

I've blogged this:
