Less than 12 hours to save Troy Davis - act now!

My heart goes out to the family of Troy Davis today. For the second time in three years, they are spending what they believe to be his final hours with him.

I can only imagine the horror, the fear, the sickness in their stomachs as they fight to control their emotions, to make Troy's last hours as calm as possible for him. The instinct to protect duelling with the rage at a terrible injustice.

For those of you not familiar with Troy's case, he was convicted 20 years ago of the 1991 murder of a policeman. However, since then, the case against him has all but collapsed with almost all the witnesses recanting their original statements. I have a friend who has been to the place the murder took place, with all the court documents. In his lawyerly opinion, Troy could not have committed the murder.

If at some point in the future, more evidence comes to light proving Troy's innocence, it'll be a bit late for him as by around 11.15pm tonight, he could be dead, murdered by a State that won't admit the failings in its judicial system.

Pleas for clemency worked the last time. If you do nothing else today, please contact the authorities via the Amnesty website..

It's all we can do. It's not much, but surely we have to try.
