Will saltire fly from No 10 if Andy Murray makes Wimbledon Final?

Much as I'm pleased to see some of the stuffy protocols regarding flags on government buildings relaxed, I will go through at least 29 different kinds of fury if Andy Murray doesn't get the same treatment as the England team should he, or any other British player, make the Wimbledon Final, or in fact even the latter stages of the tournament.

Now that they've set the precedent, it had better happen for all world class sporting achievers these islands produce.

Similar thoughts ran though my head, although it was about Rugby and what would happen if the Scots and Welsh got further then the English team in the World Cup next year.

Suffice to say, there would be press outrage if Salmond (or MacConnell) had done the same thing with the saltire.

Don't be ridiculous Caron... don't you know, Andy Murray's only Scottish when he loses. If he wins Wimbledon, he'll be British... won't he?

I don't think the idea makes a lot of sense to be honest. Tennis is not a sport in which one represents one's country, so an individual competitor's nationality is strictly irrelevant. International football is different, in that the pea-brained primadonnas are there to represent the nation.

Agentmancuso, if nationality is irrelevant in tennis, why is there wall to wall media coverage (with its attendant additional pressures) of Andy Murray during Wimbledon?

Malc, you are such a cynic, but you and Hythlodaeueare right unfortunately.

It's a good question Caron, but unfortunately I'm in no position to answer for the idiocy of the press.
