Nick Clegg chides international community on Pakistan floods

Nick Clegg has expressed his frustration at the lack of response from the international community to help the 20 million people affected by the floods in Pakistan.

Nick pointed out how much aid had come from the UK:

"About close to one quarter of the aid already devoted to Pakistan has come from this country.
"The response from the international community as a whole, however, I have to say, bluntly, has just been lamentable. It's been absolutely pitiful."
I find it refreshing to hear both Nick Clegg and David Cameron use such plain and honest language on many issues but particularly in foreign affairs. I don't use the phrase "David Cameron was right" terribly often, but I was glad to hear him describe Gaza as a prison camp.

If you haven't already seen it, here is the DEC's appeal video for the Pakistan floods.  It's a couple of weeks old so things have got much worse since then. As Nick pointed out, an area the size of England is affected by the flooding and 20 million people, that's equivalent to a third of the UK's population, face danger from lack of food and clean water.
